About Dental Implants
Our Procedure
At Forma we carry out a full dental assessment and usually a CT x-ray scan to help us evaluate your jaw bone in 3D. From this we can work out the length and angle of any implants to be placed.
The implants can be placed at the time the tooth is removed or after a period of healing. We prefer placing implants at the time of tooth loss as this can minimise subsequent bone loss and an extra surgical procedure. It can take as little as 30 minutes to place an implant.
Can Dental Implants Last A Lifetime?
Implants can fail if you are a heavy smoker or have poor oral hygiene, but usually implants can last as long as 50 years. Forma Smile works with you to ensure you have a hygiene plan in place to protect your dental implant.
Dental Implants can be stronger than your actual teeth as many teeth are weakened by big fillings and root canal treatment. It is always an option to replace a failing tooth with an implant.
Root filled tooth with substantial bone loss is a good candidate for an implant. It can be removed and an implant placed immediately.

How Safe are Dental Implants?
The Titanium is bio-inert, and the body accepts it without any problems. The process of the bone growing around the implant is called osseointegration. Titanuim is also used in hip prostheses as well. Once integrated and providing your hygiene is maintained the implant becomes part of the bone.
The implant can easily support your chewing and aesthetic needs and is not removable as a denture, which can easily be lost or broken.
